This piece has proven to be quite touching, so Darin decided to commission a friend to sculpt the image. You can see her work in progress at www.cathyerdmann.typepad.com. He went and visited Cathy today in her studio and was very excited to see his "portrait" in 3-D.
Between Darin, Cathy, and others of Darin's artist friends, I feel completely inadequate. Why did they get all the talent? There's none left for me!!! I should have doodled more or played with Play-doh more. I remember telling some people in our old ward that I suffered a major inferiority complex after marrying Darin. We were each asked to fill out a scouting survey and to check off any of the listed items we had expertise in or experience with. I maybe, maybe, had two or three boxes marked. Darin had the whole page marked. I felt small, real insignificant. But, soon I accepted the fact that I was not as accomplished as Darin and agreed that it was o.k...at least I married the talent. Isn't that what a working relationship is all about? The one compensates for the other? Well, Darin has had his work cut out for him with my lack of talent in the arts department. I often ask him to draw things for me for church and such. (My kindergarten students used to snicker at the drawings I'd make on the white board. How sad is that?) He also sews. (He's gonna' kill me for sharing that!)
Anyway, Darin's been really busy getting his website up and running. It has been a work in progress for many, many months and is finally LIVE. The site is not 100% and he has more to do on it; however, it is an awesome start. Check it out! www.darinashbyart.com

Alisa - I don't know if you will remmber me or not, but I have been reading (ok stalking) your blog since I saw a comment by you on Stephanie W's blog.
ReplyDeleteI love your husband's work. I have his 'No Greater Love' print in my home and it speaks to me each time I look at it.
I had NO IDEA your husband was the artist!! His web site is amazing...I especially liked Camille's portrait. Such a talent!
My husband paints, too, and I also wonder where my artistic ability is...but alas, he got it and I have other things I can do. Though, I wish I had more ability in the arts area.
I am so happy to have 'stumbled' upon you and your family.

ReplyDeleteDarin is ridiculously, over-the-top, amazingly talented (LOVE his new renaissance work) so it only makes sense that he would marry someone equally talented. You are such a great mother, it seems to come so naturally to you. I always admire the calm, sweet spirit you have with your girls. It is such a beautiful thing to see how you nurture and draw out all of the best in them!
What a wonderful little family you have :) And congrats on the site - it looks fabulous!
Alisa, I am SO with Katrina. Darin married his equal and Katrina wrote it so eloquently.
ReplyDeleteOur ward really suffered a great loss when you moved out.
I'm so glad that Darin is getting a web site up and running. Bout time! :o)
You are a good wife and mum!
Congrats on the website! I still have prints of Darin's work in my home. He's an exceptional artist with amazing talent. I'm nervous to see what Nuskin's next convention will be like without Darin's creativity in the recognition area. We sure do miss him here! Cute pics of the girls. They're getting soooo big! Don't forget, they are going to be dating my 4 boys! :)
