Dakota's Lost Teeth

 Dakota's 1st Lost Tooth

We had given Dakota an apple to eat on the way to her ophthalmology appointment a few weeks ago that she hadn't finished before we had to go in to see the doctor.  So, she decided to finish it on the way home.  As we were driving, Dakota said, "My tooth hurts."  We said sorry and thought that was that.  Things were quiet for a minute.  Then she said, "I think my tooth is loose."  I turned around (Darin was driving) to take a look, thinking it wouldn't amount to much.  After all, she had never complained about her tooth before, nor had she ever pointed out her wiggly tooth (as most kids do every 5 minutes once they realize it's got a little give).  The right bottom tooth was barely attached - it was definitely on it's way out.  I asked her if she wanted me to pull it out for her.  She replied with an emphatic "NO!"

As soon as we got home, she went to the bathroom mirror and within minutes it was in her hand.  She was so excited for the Tooth Fairy to visit her for the first time.  She was $1 richer the next morning.  Immediately she began to feel her other teeth to see if they were loose.  She insisted that her other bottom tooth was wiggly, too.  I took a look and told her it would be a while before that one came out (it don't think it even moved).  A few days later, Dakota told me that her other bottom tooth was starting to loosen.  Sure enough...there was a little wiggle in there.  Then, a while later...the tooth was really loose...she worked on it for less than a minute and out it came!  (How does a tooth that is not even loose one day, be out within 2 weeks?  Does it really happen that fast?)  A second visit from the Tooth Fairy was highly anticipated and the gold Sacajawea dollar coin was a surprise.

Dakota's Two Bottom Teeth Are Gone!

Oakley (3 yrs.) has caught on quickly - Lose a tooth...Get paid!  She's been asking a lot lately about her teeth, wondering, "When I am I gonna' lose my teeth?", "Mom, are any of my teeth loose, yet?", "Hey, I think I have a loose tooth!"  Hey, I don't blame her.  I wish the Tooth Fairy would visit me, except I'd want her to leave a roll of big bills under my pillow.  After all, I've paid a lot of $$$ for my teeth.  However, I doubt the Tooth Fairy has any use for my drilled and filled teeth.  Oh, well -  maybe I can sell another body part (like the extra fat)! :)
