My little ladies had been planning their Halloween costumes for months. They had it all worked out...who was going to be who, wearing what. As "Wicked" (the Broadway) fanatics, we can often be heard singing selected tunes (such as "Popular", "Defying Gravity", "No Good Deed", etc.) from the Wicked soundtrack at the top of our lungs (yes, Darin too). We have about 5 copies of the disc scattered in various places around the house and in the car so that it is readily available. So, it was only fitting to have the girls dress up as various characters from the musical. Brooklyn was Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West). And I must say she looked totally "wicked" in her green make-up. Makenna donned a princess outfit to be Glinda (The Good Witch) and was as beautiful as they come. Dakota was the scarecrow, named Fiyero. She would go around and tell everyone she was Fiyero. People who weren't familiar with "Wicked" were a little confused. Oakley was Chistery, the flying monkey. (I know she looked more like Curious George with wings, but hey...she was dang cute, anyway!) To help tie it all together, Oakley wore an "I Love OZ" t-shirt over her big-bellied costume.
We had so much fun planning this year's costumes. I'm so glad they are still young and willing to do "group" costumes, even though they take a lot of planning and effort to put together. (Last year, they were Disney's "Cheetah Girls".) I guess I better start thinking about next year...(ha, ha, ha). Until then, the photos below are now priceless memories of Halloween 2008.

WAY too cute! I love Wicked! It's great music. I haven't seen it but I love the music.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Absolutely adorable! My kin! I love it when I see photo's of my kin!
ReplyDeleteOh!!! I was so sad I just missed you guys at my parents house. Hope to see you soon!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS! And wouldn't expect anything less from the very creative Ashby clan :)
ReplyDeleteI love which characters each of the girls picked to portray :) Perfect fit!
I heard it's coming to Utah in March! YOu planning to go? I saw it in Chicago and brought the music back, so now Maya is a big fan also. I'd really love to take her.... we'll see how much the tickets are :)
They go on sale to the general public on December 12th. They will not be cheap. I heard it might be cheaper to fly to New York to see it. We'll see. Fortunately, we got tickets last week through a Zion's Bank special deal, and got them a lot cheaper. We are going to take Brooklyn, Makenna, an Dakota in April to a matinee showing. They don't know about it. It will be a complete surprise when we take them out of school to go see it. I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it.
ReplyDeleteWay too cute! I, too, am a huge Wicked fan! We're debating right now if Zoe is too young to go with us this Spring--she loves the music too. Do you think 5 1/2 is too young???
ReplyDeleteWe're planning to bring 3 out of our four girls. Brooklyn will be almost 10, Makenna will almost be 7 and Dakota will be 5 yrs. I think because they all love the music so-o-o-o-o much, they will be thoroughly engaged. I don't think it would be a problem to take her.
