Digital Photography

I am loving my new camera. Darin got me the Canon Rebel XSi for Valentine's Day. I have only used it in Auto-mode so far, since I know nothing about aperture settings, iso's, shutter speeds, etc. Just point and click. Anyway, I have been having fun playing around with it and getting used to it. The first day I pulled it out, I took some random shots of the girls - not necessarily candid, because they did "pose" for me, but quickies. One of my absolute faves from this "shoot" is a shot of Dakota and Oakley together. This is what I captured (pink frosting on Oakley's face and all):


Way cute! (But notice Darin in the background by the T.V. I believe Madagascar 2 was showing). So I decided to play around a little with clipping masks, eraser tools, black & white layers, screen layers, and text layers...and here is what I got.


I did not originally set out to do this, but this is what came of it. It's a lot of fun. I am going to try out different techniques with this pic so that I can learn more. I tried first to turn it into vintage photo with colored layers, and the burn tool, but I got lost in all the on-line tutorials...So, I'll have to try again. But, for now...this is a surprising end-result with a different effect.

Digital photography is so fun! And with all the tools available in editing software, I could get lost for hours. But, I don't have the "hours". I can only hope for those moments that come once in a blue moon, to play in Photoshop. I need to find more time to catch up on all my scrapbooking. I'm so behind! But today, I got my "fix". (Now, I better go deal with the laundry that got neglected.)
