Visit with Grandpa Ashby

We've had a fun week!  Last weekend, on our way through to Vegas for Spring Break, we had the opportunity to stop for the night at Grandma Ashby's in St. George and then visit Grandpa Ashby who has been in the Kolob care center there for almost two years.  The girls sang for him (putting on a little show) and posed for some choice photo shots with him and Grandma.  They absolutely loved it and Grandpa had a big smile on his face the whole time we were there.  He seemed well and in good spirits.

It's been hard having him in the care facility, but Darin's mom just can't take care of him by herself.  Two years ago, as we were coming back through St. George from Vegas for a quick visit, Grandpa was not doing so well.  He was not very alert and was starting to alter.  Amazingly, he snapped out of it just long enough to visit with the girls, call them each by name, and give a hug, before "leaving" again.  We knew he wasn't doing well.  Later that night, we had heard that he had fallen out of bed and Grandma couldn't get him back up.  With the help of her brothers, they got him to the hospital, but they didn't think he'd make it through the night.  Here we are two years later and he's still kickin'!
