Update on Suzi

Suzi is doing extremely well, under the circumstances. Last Thursday, her doctor came in and told her that her stem cells started grafting themselves and that she was on her way to recovery. She was feeling well enough to take her off the morphine and to take her off the IV fluids that have been "feeding" her the last week. In fact, she was doing so well, that they let her leave on Saturday. She tied the record at the University of Utah hospital for the shortest stay for a bone marrow transplant...19 days. Way to go, Suzi! The doctor said that her stem cells started fighting off the "enemy" even before they started engrafting themselves. We love those cells!

Suzi came to dinner to our house today, along with other family members, for Father's Day dinner. She looks so good! (I wish I took pics.) We are so glad that her bone marrow transplant is behind her. She can now concentrate on getting better. She'll stay in Salt Lake City at Aunt Sharlene's house for another 2 weeks (maybe less) while the doctors monitor her health. She will then go home to Vegas. She may have to come back up to U of U Hospital to do radiation therapy a month after that, if needed...just to be sure that the cancer stays away.

Suzi has been an amazing example of strength, faith, and courage. Even during her difficult, "yucky", painful days in the hospital...she still said, "Whatever the Lord's will..."

We love you, Suzi and are very grateful that you are almost home!
