Makenna's # 8

I can't believe how long I go between postings.   This entry's date has been "skewed", as well, in order to make it "chronoblogical"  (my new blog terminology = an adjective meaning to change the date on any late posting in order to make it show up "chronologically" in order of events).

Makenna celebrated her 8th birthday on May 18th.  This was the "family party" year, so no little friends came to an official birthday party.  She wanted a dolphin themed cake (no doubt because of our anticipated trip to Maui, Hawaii) so off I went to find anything dolphin related that could go on a cake.  With no luck finding dolphin shaped molds anywhere in the vicinity, and with the help of inspiring on-line photos showing gorgeously decorated cakes, I improvised.  My improvisation did not turn out at all like I saw it in my head (as they rarely do), but I made a cake and Makenna loved it...and that is all that matters.  It tasted good, too, which was a major plus.

Makenna's Dolphin Cake
(I like how it looks like the dolphin is swimming un the waves.)

Shells were made from molded chocolates and then dusted with pearl luster.

Since we couldn't find dolphin molds, we found this cute dolphin craft and I had Makenna color it and we used it as the cake topper.
Makenna had a nice festive day.  We took her to Build-a-Bear where she brought to life a cute little bunny named Raelee.  (Makenna's middle name is Rae.)  She found some darling clothes for it, including a swimsuit for Maui.  She then got to eat dinner on the famed red "YOU ARE SPECIAL" plate and matching cup.  Tacos...YUM!  Then extended family, including Holly & her friend Ryan and Heidi & Steve,  came over to watch her open presents and to eat cake and ice cream.  What a special birthday for her.  Happy Birthday, Makenna Rae!  We love you!
