We had a fun Easter weekend at Emily's cabin up by Daniel's Summit (Strawberry Reservoir). We went up on Friday and came home Saturday night. We would've liked to have stayed longer, but needed to get back for our Sunday church responsibilities. And with no running water up at the cabin, (the tank must have had a leak), we had to sacrifice a few luxuries. But, we still had a blast. The girls had so much fun riding snowmobiles, sledding, hunting for Easter Eggs (in the snow), swimming in the jacuzzi, and watching movies. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. Luckily, we faired the weekend with no injuries; however, that's not to say that we didn't have close calls. Darin, with Dakota on his machine, did a nose dive off a snowbank. He flew off and landed on his back in front of the snowmobile after doing a couple flips in the air. Dakota, amazinly, stayed on the machine holding on for dear life. She hit her head pretty hard on the console, but her helmet protected her. However, her nerves were unsettled after that and all she wanted was to to go back to the cabin. She ended up crying herself to sleep on Paul's shoulder. I don't blame her...it looked like a scary ride. Other than that, the girls loved every second of their rides and kept asking their drivers to go faster, faster, faster. I had Oakley on my machine, so I played it safe and rode a lot slower than the rest of the gang. At times, however, Oakley would say, "Mon, mon, go!" (C'mon, c'mon, go!). Even she couldn't get enough.
Hunting for Easter Eggs in the snowy mountains, dressed in full snow gear was a different experience. I couldn't hide the eggs really well, because I kept sinking in the snow. But, the girls enjoyed it equally and made a "sweet" haul from all the eggs they found. (Note for the future: Don't put jelly beans inside eggs that will be in the snow. It will make for a huge sticky mess that will get all over the other treats. But, they do leave pretty colorful spots all over the snowy ground wherever they land.)
Below are a few pics from our little outing.
