Darin found out a while ago that he had won BEST OF STATE 2010 for the ARTS category in DRAWING/ILLUSTRATION. Congrats, Honey. You are so talented!
On May 29th, we attended the Awards Gala the night we got back in town from our Maui trip. Needless to say, we were so tired, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to go. Luckily, some of Darin's vendor friends were running the Audio/Visual part of the show so they had a table for us to sit at. Otherwise, we would have had to buy two $75 tickets for the dinner to the event (even though Darin was an award recipient, GO FIGURE!). The catered dinner was not the best but the company was enjoyable. Our table had a lot of fun together. (We refused to be all "stuffy" even though it was a formal event.)
Darin had his few seconds (literally) of fame when they called him up on stage with several other recipients that stretched the length of the stage. They handed him his award...and that was it. We immediately headed backstage for photos (that we didn't purchase...they wanted a lot of money for those, too), finished our meal, and came home. We had someone take a few pictures of us at home so that we could document the occasion.
Although it we were so tired and the event itself was somewhat anti-climactic, we had an awesome time. It is always fun to play dress-up occasionally and meander with the best of the best. (We were amongst some amazing Utahns that night.) Our state has some of the most talented, friendly, giving, and inspiring people in it and we were proud to be a small part of it.
