Deer Valley

Darin had an event to run up at Deer Valley at the St. Regis Resort for work, so we decided to tag along.  We knew we wouldn't see much of him, but knew we'd see a lot of the pool.  So, of course, we wanted to go.  We met him up there a little later on in his event.  He had to be up there earlier in the week and we just went for the weekend.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  I love the mountains and we were right there taking it all in, poolside.

The staff at the hotel were amazing, too.  They are a fairly new resort and still hadn't pulled out all of their fun activities.  One staff member opened up some bean bag tossing games for the kids to play with along side the ping pong tables down on the lower deck.  Oakley became the little ping pong star.  She handed me over some pretty wicked serves that I couldn't play on and had me chasing after the ball more than anything.

One night, we got to join Darin's group for dinner and Karaoke.   Many people had heard about Brooklyn's singing talent and were excited to her her perform live.  She didn't disappoint.  But the surprise of the evening came when our little Makenna stepped up to the mic to perform a solo rendition of Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me".  I kept asking her before the song, "Are you sure you want to do this song?  Do you even know this song?  We can find someone to sing with you.  Does Brooklyn know it?"  Makenna assured me she would be fine and I let her go.  WOW!  She nailed it!!!!  Darin's jaw was on the floor and I was wide-eyed as can be by the end of her song.  Makenna proved to us all that she can hold her own.  (Can you tell I'm just a little proud of her?)  Our whole family had fun singing that night and mixing and mingling with perfect strangers and friends.

I'm so glad that we occasionally get opportunities to participate in Darin's work events.  It doesn't always happen, but we appreciate it greatly when they come along.  Darin works so hard at these events.  He's not the one lounging around the pool, staring up at the mountains in between quiet reads, playing hooky with the kids, or even sitting down to eat a meal.  He's the one running around putting out all the fires, making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be at the right time, and assuring that everything goes off without a hitch.  (I'm proud of him, too!)  Thanks, Daddy!
