Teaming up with UACA

MAX, Int. (the company Darin works for) teamed up with UACA (Utahns Against Child Abuse) to raise money and awareness.  He had the opportunity to drive the chase vehicle (in this case a 40-foot motor home) behind some of his bosses as they rode their Harley's across the country for charity.  Darin had an amazing experience and even rode some of the Hogg's along the way (even though he promised me he wouldn't).  He was able to get to know the "Big Wigs" even better, solidifying his confidence at his job.  Things were starting to get a little rough, but he feels sooo much better about his job security and needs to ride this "high" for a while.

Anyway, back to this charity fund-raising...

Darin and I also got to attend a fund raising dinner and auction at Le Caille (a fancy French restaurant up on the East Bench in SLC).  It was a black tie affair and Darin auctioned off a painting.  The food was not great (not impressed) and the auction setting was quite stale (definitely not my cup o' tea).  The live auction itself was a little entertaining, mostly because I could not believe the amount of money people have to throw around.  I'm sure the plethora of alcohol had nothing to do with that (wink, wink).  Oddly enough,  Darin's item that he auctioned, a personalized art portrait, went for way, way, WAY less that the live little puppy that was auctioned, shortly after.  Go figure!  His portrait would have gone for even less if Joe V., the company's attorney, hadn't purposefully fueled the bidding war in his drunken stupor.  :)

Needless to say, I'm not sure I would jump at the chance to attend another charity auction, but I am glad for the opportunity to see what the other half lives like.
