Vegas House Hunt

We went house hunting with my brother, Mike, this past weekend while we were in Vegas for Dave's wedding.  He showed us the "nice" neighborhoods to look in.  Unfortunately, we came away feeling very disenchanted.  We are so used to having big yards, big garages, not being 5 feet from your neighbors, and grass...none of which you can find much of in Vegas, unless you custom build.  HOA's, gated communities, no storage, and no basements are common, as well.  DARN!

Also, the housing prices are redonkulous!  Because so many people bought when the market was booming in Vegas and now find themselves with a house they can't sell are renting them for double what you would pay in a mortgage.  We can't buy, yet, because of our situation and renting would be our only option.   I'm feeling a little sick to my stomach about it right now.  BLAH!

The school district in Vegas is one of the worst in the nation.  Gangs, horrible teachers, and poor school performance don't make it an appealing place either.  We'd need to be sure to find a house in the boundaries for the good schools and there are slim for the picking.  We don't want to move our kids out of their school up here.  Guess we'll stay put for a bit, and Darin will continue his commute.  It's really starting to ware on us.  It's no fun having daddy gone so much.
