Happy 14!

Last Wednesday (November 18th),  my hubby and I had our 14th Wedding Anniversary.  Because it was a weeknight, we didn't get to celebrate it that day.  Instead we went to the school's Reflections Awards Night to support our three winners...but that is for another post.  We decided to wait until Friday to go out on a date...something we haven't done for a very long time.  Although we didn't do anything spectacular, I just felt lucky enough to have him back in town.  He was supposed to have gone to Atlanta this last week, but was able to get out of his trip, which was very welcomed, seeing as he had been out of town the last 2 1/2 weeks off and on  (Philippines, St. George, Park City).

I was somewhat jealous of some of my distant friends who were going together to see "New Moon" as a Girl's Night Out.  I always thought it would be fun to go to a chick flick with a big group of my gal pals, cuz' I've never done that before.  I wasn't even sure Darin would be in town for our anniversary, let alone the weekend after until earlier that week.  So, when Darin asked what I wanted to do on our date, I told him I wanted to go see the movie.  He indulged me by agreeing.  I told him he would most likely be the only guy in a theater full of swooning chicks.  He assured me he was fine with that, and thought it would be kinda' fun (even though he had been mocking all his female colleagues that week).  I was really excited (who knew?) to be a part of something so big.  I didn't get to see the first "Twilight" movie in the theaters when it first came out.  I had to wait until it came out on DVD.  I so wanted to experience this frenzy first hand.

I was worried, however, that the crowd in the theater would be so unruly that one couldn't even enjoy the film.  And I was sure Darin would be one of the few, if not the only, guy in there.  We made a verbal bet as we walked into the theater that there would be no more than seven males in the theater.  We couldn't have been more wrong.  It was almost an equal split between men and women, boys and girls, including younger children and babies.  (Yes, there were three infants there...I know...I heard them.  ARRGH! - No, actually they behaved pretty well.)  We were very fortunate to have a good mix of people who behaved well.  Yay!  And Darin only mocked the movie three times during its play (commenting on Jacob's physique in his "gay voice").  The little boy sitting next to him looked up at him every time he did it.  I'd smack him and he'd quit.  We actually got more entertainment out of the audience after the movie.  The teeny-bopper girl sitting by us was absolutely hilarious.  We couldn't help but laugh.  The many wives (whom obviously had read the book) were filling in the gaps for their husbands who obviously hadn't read the books, but watched the film to appease their wives (just as my dear husband did...thanks, honey).  I was glad to see so many supportive men out there!

After the movie, we had planned to go get something to eat, but it was already after 10 p.m.  We drove around for a little bit, not sure of where to go, and my eyelids were droopy.  I was really tired and only getting more sleepy.  I seem to not be able to stay awake when I need to, or when it really counts.  Yet, I can stay up all night for frivolous t.v. watching, cleaning, or intense projects.  (I stayed up until 3 a.m. one night a couple of weeks ago to unpack the craft room.)  Because I was tired, we did the boring thing and just came home.  My sister, Heidi, and her friend, Steve, had just put the kids down to bed when we got home.  We visited with them for a little while, said goodbye, and ZONK - went to sleep.  The girls had an early morning Primary Activity Breakfast that I had to have them and myself to by 8:30 a.m. Saturday, so sleep was important.

So, again, even though we didn't get to do anything amazing or truly commemorative of a 14th Wedding Anniversary, we had a lovely time.  I am grateful for our 14 years together; for a husband who works extremely hard (too hard) for us; for four beautifully, amazing little girls that rock my world; and a best friend that I get to be with for eternity.  I love you, babe!  Happy 14!
